We have recently relocated to an important piece of downtown Raleigh’s historic, urban fabric: 530 Hillsborough Street. This 1920’s 10,000 SF building has been known for decades as home to an antique furniture showroom, but has also housed a pharmacy, a barber shop, and a rooming house. Through the years, each floor of the building had been subdivided again and again, but our approach upon occupying this building has been to strip away the additional walls, low ceilings and excessive flooring material to reveal an efficient and surprisingly elegant office environment. Emphasis has been placed on exposing the original historic structure and adding only simple, clean-lined elements which provide privacy when needed. An updated, open plan reduces the barriers between principle, staff and even clients while further emphasizing our commitment to a collaborative studio environment.
