The McDaniel Residence will be
home for a young and growing
family located in the Country
Club Hills area of Raleigh, NC.
The site is in a well
established neighborhood on one
of the last remaining vacant
lots available in the area.
Heavily wooded with exposed
bedrock, varied topography and
backing up to Crabtree Creek,
the site presents a number of
challenges, including a high
voltage power easement running
through the upper half of the
property.
One main goal of the design was
to direct and focus views to
take advantage of the beauty of
the natural surroundings, giving
the family a place of refuge
within the confines of the city.
In addition it attempts to
gently float the house above the
site, to create a space that
seems to be part of the trees,
while avoiding possible
conflicts with the bedrock and
floodplain below.
The house is currently under
construction and will be
completed in late 2008.
