Instead of demolishing the
existing structure or adding a
second story, the addition was
added at the rear of the
existing, separated by a new
main enrty courtyard. This
approach allows for maximum
efficiency, allowing the smaller
existing bedrooms and spaces to
be used as guest spaces and the
new construction to be as large
and open as possible, while
taking advantage of a connection
to outdoor spaces at the rear of
the lot. The material pallete is
in keeping with the texture of
the neighborhood, while their
excecution and form make a
decidedly modern statement.
