This most visible and memorable component of most office spaces, the reception desk represents a special sort of challenge and reward for most architects. In this case we worked closely with the client to craft multiple initial concepts for the desk as a way to inspire and inform the entire design. From that point on it was a study in what can be accomplished by bringing skilled craftspeople into a project early and in a collaborative manner.

Working with Xylem on millwork, McConnell Studios on steel, Apex on stone, and CG&D on the glass we designed a highly polished and refined reception area that  portrayed the sense of permanence, quiet strength, and tactility that our client hoped to achieve. In terms of materiality we incorporated walnut plywood, Carrere marble, 1/4" folded steel, 1/2" thick edge lit etched glass and stainless steel for the rods and reveals.
