This renovation and addition of a 1950’s house is located near downtown Raleigh. The interior of the previous 1200SF structure was almost completely gutted to provide more openness and connectivity between living, dining, and kitchen. To keep construction costs to a minimum, off-the-shelf components such as electrical conduit were employed to give a modern street presence, in lieu of custom metal railings. In the same way all lighting fixtures, plumbing fixtures, and door/bath/cabinet hardware were purchased on the internet to reduce project costs. In contrast, custom features such as recycled glass concrete countertops and flush maple cabinets were supplied by local fabrication studios.
