The waiting area takes advantage of available daylight near the full-height storefront

This dynamic salon studio is located in an old warehouse building at Seaboard Station in downtown Raleigh, NC. Working with interior designer Chad Jeffrey Smith and the salon owners as part of the design and fabrication team, we found every way possible to bring and open and collaborative sensibility to this space.
The plan takes advantage of the daylight at the front half of the space by locating the entry and waiting area near the full-height storefront glass. Walls were very carefully located to create the required level of privacy while maximizing openness, minimizing costs and prominently featuring sales merchandise. Nearly all casework pieces are IKEA products modified to fit new purposes and much of the interior landscape was created by the interior design team using found objects as art. Existing ceiling heights were maintained to maximize the volume of the space while the lighting was designed to balance the scale and provide an effective working environment.
