ZK House
Raleigh, NC
2700 SF
This private residence for a growing young family attempts to create a sense of evolution, that it had achieved its present state over the course of many years, with a variety of textures and materials to help articulate this notion. The clients were looking for a home that at once accommodated their modern lifestyle, paid homage to the local tradition of the bungalow, created indoor/outdoor spaces and more....all the while maintaining as small a budget as was possible.
As such the house was actually designed and built with a budget under $100/SF the project was a true exercise in efficiency and making the most of every decision. The first floor is open and flexible allowing for large gatherings of friends and family to move freely throughout the space from indoors out, while maintaining an intimate felling for nights spent relaxing. Exterior living space was maximized with porches, decks and a balcony providing access outside.
