Bridge House

Raleigh, NC
4800 SF

This home for a young and growing family is located in the Country Club Hills area of Raleigh, NC. The site was one of the last remaining vacant lots available in a well-established neighborhood. The site is heavily wooded with exposed bedrock, varied topography, frontage along Crabtree Creek and a high voltage power easement running through the upper half of the property.

Presented with these challenges, our main goal of the design was to direct and focus views to take advantage of the beauty of the natural surroundings, giving the family a place of refuge within the confines of the city. Furthermore, the design attempts to gently float the house above the site, creating spaces that seems to be one with the trees, while avoiding possible conflicts with the bedrock and floodplain below.
